ASHNI MATHURIA

Founder, Counselor

I am a writer and educator from Carnegie Mellon University, an MFA candidate at Columbia University, and a graduate of Mission San Jose High School. I am TEFL-certified with 4+ years of teaching experience, I received my undergraduate education in creative writing and technical writing, and I am pursuing my Master's in creative writing with a concentration in creative nonfiction. Among other teaching, writing, editing, and marketing positions, I've worked as a writing consultant at CMU's Communication Support Center.

At Communication Support, I was trained to consult on a variety of writing topics -- from research papers to business communications to academic essays -- but I found myself most passionate about helping students with their university applications. I'm a creative nonfiction writer and teacher, so I see admissions essays as just another form of memoir through which students can tell their stories in unique, compelling, and memorable ways.

I approach each student, each application, and each essay with the knowledge that every word counts. My philosophy is to meet students where they are. Stressed out, confused, anxious — students these days are under so much pressure, and my goal is to ease the apprehension of college applications that students and parents undoubtedly feel. I'm so excited to guide you through this next step in your academic journey!
